The Happy Octopus

by Marcia N. Lynch

I love being an octopus
I slither and I slide
Tucking in my tentacles
To find a place to hide.
I creep along the ocean floor
And sing a solo song,
While dancing on my nimble legs
I never feel alone.
Like Russian dolls all lining up
In their descending size,
The suckers of my tentacles
Flow down my slippery sides.
I’ve been given eight of them,
And with my good looks —
It’s fun to glide around the sea
And be an octopus.
