‘The Flickering Flame’ and ‘The Spring Effect’ — Two Poems by Paul Kaddis (age 14)

The Flickering Flame

by Paul Kaddis, age 14

A flame so bright
Flickering in the night
Offering light
To all around
Produced through multiple ways
This little blaze
A dancing flame
Of fame
Widely known
Widely shown
A representative of many things
This little thing
Brings a ring
The little fire grows
And begins to plow
Everything in its path
When Earth’s end draws near and dear
Fear will be clear
Fire will destroy the world
All will be curled
But a hope there lies
In a flame’s little light
The Savior He is
With great might
Powerful God is
And awed by many
This is the only
Savior
Forgiver of sins
The One who has always been
And will always be
He is
There for me

The Spring Effect

by Paul Kaddis, age 14

One morning it’s Winter
The next it’s Spring
I wake up to the birds singing
To the sweet aura in the air
Pollen flies around
The sun’s beam is just right
Making every flower blossom
And making seedlings sprout
The morning dew
The fresh feel
Every plant shows Spring
Animals awake
Scurrying all around the ground
The temperature warms
Longer days arrive
Snow melts
Creating pure streams
Flowing to the ground
Leaving luscious green
Trees bloom their fruit
Offering it to the animals and humans
Life enjoys its bearings
