Hummingbird Gems

by Fernando Guerrero, age 13

Hummingbirds are small birds, it would seem, energized in a sunbeam
Insignificant, they have a major role; without them, nature would take its toll
They zip around from flower to flower, hundreds of blossoms within an hour
These gems can be blue, red, or green. They’re beautiful in the sky to be seen
The birds work, eat, and pollinate all day long, singing a cheerful “birdsong”
Remembering flowers and places they’ve been, they hover with wings that are thin
