Hummingbird Gems

by Fernando Guerrero, age 13

Hummingbirds are small birds, it would seem, energized in a sunbeam
Insignificant, they have a major role; without them, nature would take its toll
They zip around from flower to flower, hundreds of blossoms within an hour
These gems can be blue, red, or green. Theyโ€™re beautiful in the sky to be seen
The birds work, eat, and pollinate all day long, singing a cheerful โ€œbirdsongโ€
Remembering flowers and places theyโ€™ve been, they hover with wings that are thin
