‘A Walk in the Rain’ and ‘In the Distance’ — Two Poems by Pearl E. Gaston (age 11)

A Walk in the Rain

by Pearl E. Gaston, age 11

Raincoat and rainboots
lay still in the closet.
Is rain to be braved to get out of doors?

It is! It is! So grab your umbrella
And sally forth into drizzle and pour.

You splash in the puddles,
You dance in the rain,
You twirl your umbrella high.
For though it has rained
The Lord hath ordained
For today to be a day of joy.

The birds are out
To catch a fresh worm,
A rainbow has wreathed the sky.
An eagle soars over with a wild, free cry
And disappears into the great, big sky.

In the Distance

by Pearl E. Gaston, age 11

In the midst of a storm,
in the distance I see,
A patch of bright sunshine
coming to me.

E’en though things seem bleak,
like the heart of a storm,
Like a patch of bright sunshine
God’s watching over me.

The storm is over,
The calm is back.
God’s rainbow has wreathed the sky.
