A Lullaby Rondeau

Now sleep, my child, have pleasant dreams,
Perhaps of sheep near flowing streams.
I will stay close beside your bed
Until my prayers for you are said —
Petitions with important themes —
May the Good Shepherd Who redeems
Protect you from disturbing dreams,
And keep His angels ‘round your head.
Now sleep, my child.
When sunshine brings its morning beams,
And light into your bedroom gleams,
I’ll wake you for the day ahead,
I’ll give you jam and buttered bread,
And tea with just a little cream.
Now sleep, my child.
