A Hug from God
(featuring a reference to 1 Corinthians 13: 4–8)
by Alexa Reese, age 17
If it seems the world is dark and grey
Take a gaze at the sky
God made the blue and each beautiful day
Your sorrow makes Him cry
Love is patient, love is kind
God is the love that never fails
God is patient, God is kind
He hates to hear our wails
Faces turn to waterfalls
When we feel so alone
God wants us to answer His calls
So we can soon come home
Whenever you feel lonely
Pay attention to your heart
You can feel the presence, one and only
Of a hug from God

The Lens to My Camera
A Portrait Poem
by Alexa Reese, age 17
She is a dandelion blowing across a vast field.
She is a waterfall flowing to a lake, always taking in more.
She is an open door, a friendship bracelet, a weeping willow that never weeps.
A dove looking for a place to perch.
A highway exit that you may drive past but always find again.
If New York were a person, she would be that place.
A time machine to the future, the yellow glow of a misty rainbow.
She is a loud drum that commands your mind, a high-speed train always in motion.
The season where it’s not quite spring but not yet summer.
The champagne you pop on New Year’s Eve,
Always celebrating life and new beginnings.
She is a musician leaving on her world tour.
She is a page in a photo album showing an entire lifetime.
A mirror looking for something to reflect, yet a projection already knowing what to display.
She is the missed call that you always call back for.
The new mix of a song that tops charts.
She is a thousand years old but newborn and wanting more.
She is a ray of sunshine that can never burn your eyes.
She is my other half, my twin, the handle to my door.
The gate to a huge backyard, a living room welcoming you into life.
The best friend of all time that God gave me on this broad globe.
The lens to my camera, capturing the world together.
