A Day in My Imaginary Farm

by Faith Morin, age 10

At 4 am, my rooster pecked at my window. He surprised me when he screamed in a loud, crackly voice, “Wake up!”

I was so shocked, I accidentally put my overalls over my PJs. When I rushed out the door, I ran into Dolores the cow, who yelled, “YOU NEED TO MILK ME! IT’S GOING TO COME OUT LIKE A WATERFALL!”

She was so loud, I fell into the chicken coop, not knowing I cracked a baby chick’s egg. It wasn’t long before the egg completely hatched and the chick popped out asking, “What I miss?”

Frazzled, I ran up to my room and said to myself, “What is happening today?”

Out of nowhere, Max the horse came up to my ear and softly whispered, “Are you okay?”

I jumped off my bed, but before I could say anything, he then yelled, “I need to tell you something very urgent!”

“What is urgent?” I asked.

“Sophie the pig is giving birth!”

“Sophie the pig is giving birth?” I repeated. I didn’t know she was in such a condition.

So, we ran as fast as we could to the mud pit where the pigs hung out and saw poor little Sophie lying in pain on the grass nearby. We wanted to help the poor pig, when she screamed, “I want privacy, please!”

We quickly moved away from her when a group of chickens circled around her so no one could see what was happening. Before long, we heard tiny squeals singing, “Row, row, row your boat.”

Confused, I hurried home and jumped into bed. I pulled the covers over my head to get away from the craziness and soon fell asleep.

When I woke up, I sat up in bed and thought, “What a crazy dream I had.”

Then out of nowhere, my pet hamster Lily crawled up to me and squeaked, “Hi!”
