A Day at the Fair
by Pat Severin
O boy, O boy, my mom said yes, we’re going to the fair!
We’re gonna ride the Tilt-O-Whirl! It flies right through the air.
My dad got off of work that day so he can come with us.
He said we’ll ride the Ferris Wheel, if I don’t make a fuss.
The last time I was so afraid, it’s high up at the top.
It scared me, so I cried and cried so hard I couldn’t stop.
This time I’m six so I won’t cry ‘cause I’m not scared at all,
besides I’ll have my dad with me, I know that I can’t fall.
My brother loves to win a prize by shooting at the ducks.
Last year, it only took ten tries for him to win two trucks.
Dad said there’s a special show inside the fair’s big tent
with bears and lions in a cage and one big elephant.
And then at 12 o’clock, Mom buys me cotton candy.
My sister’s choice is pretzels, and the pretzel stand’s real handy.
My brother likes the caramel corn. My parents buy ice cream.
Then all of us sit down and eat. This lunch is like a dream!
Then after lunch, the clowns perform; they always make me laugh.
Almost forgot, my dad told me, we might see a giraffe.
We always love the County Fair and even when it’s done,
we’ll talk non-stop the whole way home because we all had fun!
