Prayer 153

by John Dexter

Fishes, fishes come to me
My children come and they have need
To rest from toil and sweat, I say
they’ve fished the whole long night away
Yet everything is now ok

Fishes, fishes come I pray
My children come; we’ll meet today
Your flesh I’ll give them to show
that from so very long ago
I’ve planned their every need — they’ll know.

Fishers and men. Come again
The day has come; new work begins
My flesh I gave for you. Now tell
that everything has now been made well.
Forever, all is now made well.

Come now Peter, come and eat.
Come now Peter, come and see.
