Home Video
by Morgan Carlock Clark
While rewinding a VCR tape
to watch from the beginning,
I see my sixth birthday party:
my friends walking backwards
from our huddle under my treehouse,
the candy in our hands
and on the ground flying towards
a Barbie piñata,
my blindfold taken off, the stick
in my hands passed to my friend.
At the corner of the treehouse,
I slide up the slide
where my grandpa meets me
at the top, embracing me
in a hug. I pause the video here
and decide not to watch it
as it really happened, but to enjoy
this moment when he does not let me go.
