Eagles’ Wings
by Esther Neamt, age 17
I’ve always wanted to fly
Upon eagles’ wings
I dreamt of soaring
Above the clouds
And up to the moon
To dance with stars underneath darkened skies
And no one knows why
I’ve always wanted to fly
I’ve always wanted to fly
My head always up in the sky
Admiring the birds of flight
Their wings they glided on
I watched their delicate feathers
Their jewels, their crown
I watch from below
As they became smaller and smaller
And I became so much farther
I always wanted to fly
And no one knows why
I’ve always wanted to fly
To be where many don’t go
To see what many can’t see
To feel the wind tickle my skin
To be wrapped in freedom galore
To no longer be earthbound all my life
To no longer admire from afar
The grace each bird had
From up in the sky
I always wanted to fly
To be free like a bird
Whose feet didn’t always touch the ground
I’ve always wanted to fly
And perhaps I know why
