“Again,” read by Joy Nevin Axelson.

Again

by Joy Nevin Axelson

Slowly, he backs it out of the shed.
Chipping, orange paint, weathered wood handles,
Wheeling it through crunchy, summer grass,
he lifts the handles as if dumping a load.
Instead, I climb in and hold tight to the curled sides.
So bumpy and so fast! I’m filled with excitement!
Sometimes he rounds the corners too sharply
and I tumble out onto patches of dandelions.
Such a silly, crazy thing to do …

but what I wouldn’t give for just one more wheelbarrow ride from Dad.
