A Horse Went to a Seahorse

by Marcia N. Lynch

A horse went to a seahorse
(Please don’t ask me how)
And showed him his reflection,
How they shared a noble brow.
“I don’t see the resemblance,”
The trembling seahorse cried.
“I have no legs or hooves,
No rippling flanks for sides.
My little fins are feeble,”
The fearful fellow said.
“You’re from a Kingly stable,
My home’s a seaweed bed!”
“I have called you seahorse,”
The massive stallion cried.
“Your strength is in My Name.
There is no need to hide.
Take this truth and go,
Swim boldly through the sea.
And when they call you ‘seahorse’
You can tell them about Me!”

About the Poet

Marcia N. Lynch’s experience as a storyteller comes from working as a children’s film editor and from having been written into the story of Christ’s redemption. She studied sculpture at Mount Holyoke College. Sculpting, like film editing, requires an artist to cut out anything that does not relate to the primary subject matter, and these two disciplines have honed her storytelling skills. Marcia lives in Arlington, Virginia with her husband of 38 years and has three grown children. She surrendered to Christ in 1975.
