Heart’s Light
by Selah Cross (age 16)
Like a star amidst the dark sky,
Like a beacon in the night
There shines a vessel heaven-bound,
Irradiating light.
A pure white glory shining
Through veil on veil of dark,
A prayer amidst the chaos,
A fiercely burning spark —
A spark that flashes brightly
Through heavy storms of gloom,
Bright and pure and quenchless,
Despite dark death and doom.
A light for men to cling to
When other lights go out,
Steadfast and unmoving
Through shades of dread and doubt.
It is the Heart still faithful,
The heaven-anchored soul,
The eye fixed high on heaven;
The lighthouse on the shoal.
No storm can shake it downward
Into the raging sea,
It stands for other vessels
To steer them danger free.
It stands a treasure priceless
Unsullied through the fight,
A beacon in the darkness,
Light calling unto light.
Soul Prayer
by Selah Cross (age 16)
Lord, fill my soul with loveliness,
Take it into Your hand,
And fill its fragile vessel full
Of faith to understand.
Take it forth, make it Your own,
And turn it to Your will,
Craft it into perfect light,
Your purpose to fulfill.
Shape it like you shape the flowers
Of fine and fragrant hue:
Like their bright heads turn to the sun
Let my heart turn to You.
Make a master-work of it,
A mirror of Your might.
May it yield up unto Your heart
And merge into Your light.
