A Sea Shanty
by Jane Murton-Armer
On the ocean waves we’re sailing,
Where we tarry round the isles.
Stormy ocean waves cascading,
Billowed sail and sky for miles.
Steer her through the stormy weather,
We’re as light as any feather.
When the sails are ringing true,
We will sail on through the blue.
Better batten down the hatches,
Heave and Ho and haul her fast.
It’s a northern wind she catches,
When it moans and shakes the mast.
Steer her through the stormy weather,
We’re as light as any feather.
When the sails are ringing true,
We will sail on through the blue.
It’s a sailor’s life, a bonnie life,
A gallant freedom calling.
The ship is shape, the flag is drawn,
We’ll drink our fill till morning.
Steer her through the stormy weather,
We’re as light as any feather.
When the sails are ringing true,
We will sail on through the blue.
And the fish are ours for catching,
Toll the bell, the bay is bright.
Oh, how lovely is the ocean,
When the land floats out of sight.
Steer her through the stormy weather,
We’re as light as any feather.
When the sails are ringing true,
We will sail on through the blue.
